TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The School of Police Science (STIK) is advocating for the use of body-worn cameras by the Indonesian National Police (Polri) personnel on duty in the field. Inspector General Eko Rudi Sudarto, the Chair of STIK, stated that the use of surveillance cameras could be a supportive part of the transformation of Polri.
Eko stated that the transformation of Polri encompasses three dimensions of change: policy and regulation, operational, and organizational culture. "Innovations such as the implementation of body worn cameras, strengthening of independent surveillance, and sustainable human rights education are concrete steps to build a more humane police force," Eko said in a written statement on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
According to Eko, the transformation of Polri should be directed towards increasing transparency, accountability, and orientation towards public interest. "Polri should not only act as an instrument of the state, but also as a public service that upholds human values, social justice, and the supremacy of the law," he said.
He mentioned that STIK is committed to supporting democratic, integrity-based, and public trust-oriented police reform. According to him, the Polri should be a pillar supporting democracy.
