TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto delivered a speech during the 80th United Nations General Assembly, held at the UN Headquarters in New York on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. During his address, he shared his country's ambition to transform Indonesia into the world's food barn.

He expressed confidence that this goal can be realized in the near future. "We are confident that in a few years' time, Indonesia will be the granary of the world," he stated at the UN General Assembly, as monitored online on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

Indonesia, he emphasized, is making progress toward achieving its sustainable development goals, citing improvements in poverty and extreme hunger as key indicators.

He asserted that the government has made substantial efforts to eradicate poverty and extreme hunger by building a robust food supply chain. The President also highlighted the government's initiatives to bolster farmers' productivity and invest in climate-smart agriculture to ensure food security for both Indonesian citizens and people globally.

"We choose to answer these challenges directly at home and to help abroad wherever we can," he said.

Prabowo also discussed his administration's accomplishments in rice and paddy production, claiming that this year Indonesia has achieved its highest rice production and paddy reserves in history.

He noted that Indonesia has reached rice self-sufficiency, which enables the nation to export rice to other countries in need, including providing rice to Palestine.

During the 80th UN General Assembly, Prabowo was the third speaker, following Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and US President Donald Trump. The President, wearing a blue suit and a traditional peci hat, spoke for approximately 19 minutes, delivering his address in English.
