TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto reminisced about the moment about being teased by former U.S. President Donald Trump during his address at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Speaking at the closing of the Prosperous Justice Party’s (PKS) sixth National Assembly at the Sultan Hotel, Jakarta, on Monday, September 29, 2025, Prabowo recounted how Trump had playfully commented on his signature table-banging gesture.

“My dear friends, please don’t invite me, don’t give Prabowo Subianto a podium,” he joked. “Even at the UN, I forgot to bang the table, until I was teased by Trump.”

During the UNGA session in New York on September 23, Trump praised Prabowo’s fiery style, recalling his energetic table-banging gesture as a mark of conviction. “Here he is again, passionate. What if he gets angry?” Prabowo said, mimicking Trump’s words.

According to Antara, Trump considered Prabowo’s performance a show of firmness, describing his bold style as a symbol of courage in voicing justice on the world stage.

At the UN, Prabowo presented Indonesia’s views on global issues, including the conflict in Palestine. He noted that his speech received positive responses from several world leaders, which he hoped could translate into concrete steps toward peace.

“We need an immediate ceasefire for the people of Gaza and a substantive settlement,” Prabowo said in his speech in New York.
