TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has chosen to spend New Year's Eve in disaster-hit areas in Sumatra. On Wednesday, December 31, 2025, Prabowo is departing for North Sumatra and is scheduled to continue his visit to Aceh to spend New Year's Eve with the residents.
Prabowo arrived at Raja Sisingamangaraja XII Airport, North Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, at around 11:20 AM. The President came with a limited entourage before continuing the journey to South Tapanuli Regency using the Caracal Helicopter of the Indonesian Air Force.
In South Tapanuli, Prabowo directly inspected the construction of the Bailey Bridge on the Garoga River. The bridge was collectively built by the authorities and the local community after the main bridge connecting inter-regional areas was destroyed due to the disaster.
In addition to inspecting emergency infrastructure, the President is also scheduled to visit the evacuation posts to ensure that the affected residents receive adequate services and targeted aid.
The President's agenda for New Year's Eve will continue in Aceh. Muhammad Qodari, the head of the Presidential Staff Office, said that Prabowo will celebrate New Year's Eve with the people of Aceh. "The President will go to Aceh, and he will spend the New Year's Eve there with the people of Aceh," said Qodari at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday night, December 30, 2025.
Although the location of the visit in Aceh has not been confirmed, Qodari mentioned that the head of state plans to go to Bener Meriah. This visit will be further confirmed through the Cabinet Secretary.
Prabowo's decision to spend New Year's Eve in disaster-stricken areas of Sumatra affirms the government's commitment to monitoring the post-disaster response firsthand. Previously, Prabowo stated that he would regularly visit the affected areas to ensure that the recovery process runs according to plan and meets the needs of the residents.
