TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prabowo Subianto received a visit from the Head of the Equipment Development Department of the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China, General Xu Xieqiang, at the President's private residence on Jalan Kertanegara Number 4, South Jakarta, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. The both of them discussed military technology cooperation.
From several photos shared on Instagram @presidenrepublikindonesia on Wednesday, August 6, 2026, Prabowo, donning a batik shirt with a blue and gold leaf motif, welcomed General Xu Xieqiang on his veranda. The Head of State paid his respects to Xu Xieqiang, a gesture that was reciprocated.
Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin also welcomed Xu Xieqiang's visit inside the president's hall.
Prabowo said the talks were held over dinner, discussing efforts to bolster military technology, as it's the key focus of General Xu's department. "Discussing the strengthening of military technology," said Prabowo through his Instagram account @presidenrepublikindonesia on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
The Gerindra Party chair said the visit reflects Indonesia and China's commitment to promoting the independence of the national defense industry and improving global competitiveness through strategic cooperation and technology transfer.
On April 21, 2025, Foreign Minister Sugiono and Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defense Minister Dong Jun in Beijing, China. The meeting was the first-ever 2+2 ministerial-level dialogue held by China.
The momentum was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding for Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue (CSD) formation, which will establish a more comprehensive bilateral mechanism. This will focus on five cooperation pillars: economics, inter-societal relations, maritime, political, and security.
In the regional context, the two countries agreed to enhance maritime cooperation, including bolstering coordination between the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) and the China Coast Guard. "Maritime cooperation must have a tangible impact on the people and contribute to regional maritime security," said Sugiono.
