TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Indonesia's hope of bringing home titles from Swiss Open 2026 did not come to fruition. Men's singles player Alwi Farhan and women's singles player Putri Kusuma Wardani suffered defeat in the final badminton matches held at St. Jakobshalle, Switzerland, on Sunday, local time, March 15, 2026.

Top-seeded Putri was defeated by Thailand's Supanida Katethong, who was the seventh seed, in straight games, 11-21, 15-21, in a 40-minute match. With this result, their head-to-head record became 2-4 in favor of Supanida.

Prior to the final match in the Swiss Open, Putri lost to Supanida in the semifinals of the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand. They played for 42 minutes with a score of 18-21, 16-21.

Her defeat in the SEA Games made Putri intend to play her best from the beginning of the match. However, on the court, she felt under pressure. She also mentioned that the Thai player played with a suitable strategy by continuously limiting high shuttles and accelerating the tempo. "I am thankful to be on the runner-up podium, but I am unsatisfied with my performance today," said Putri as quoted by the PBSI media team on Sunday.

The BWF Super 300 Swiss Open became Putri's second tournament in the last two weeks. Previously, she reached the quarterfinals of the All England 2026. In the Super 1000 level tournament, her journey was halted after being defeated by the world's number one player, An Se Young from South Korea.

Putri stated that she gained experience from all the players she faced in the last two tournaments, especially in facing the world's top players. "I can learn how to deal with strong players, such as An Se Young, or players with good attacks like Supanida," said the 23-year-old player.

She was determined to become stronger, both physically and technically, as well as non-technically. "Especially in terms of focus and the ability to handle pressure in every match," said the 23-year-old player.

Meanwhile, Alwi, who was the sixth seed, was defeated by unseeded Japanese player Yushi Tanaka with a score of 18-21, 12-21. This was his first loss to Yushi after three previous victories.

Like Putri, Alwi also played in two consecutive tournaments in the last two weeks. Previously, he was stopped in the quarterfinals of the All England after losing to Kunlavut Vitidsarn from Thailand.

Alwi is grateful to have gone through an incredible week. According to him, the challenges he faced were not easy. "Unfortunately, I felt anticlimactic in the final match. But what can I do, I admit I lost and Yushi played better," said the 20-year-old player.

Furthermore, Alwi felt that he could not recover better after playing in the semifinals. However, he promised to come back stronger and try again another time.

He stressed that, although the Swiss Open is a Super 300 tournament, the challenge was almost the same as the Super 1000 last week. "With less than 100% condition, I still tried my best," he said.

China emerged as the overall champion of the Swiss Open 2026 by bringing home two titles in the women's doubles through Li Yi Jing/Wang Yi Duo and in the mixed doubles through Cheng Xing/Zhang Chi. Both pairs became champions after eliminating their compatriots.

The men's doubles title belonged to the Taiwanese pair Lee Fang-Chih/Lee Fang-Jen, who defeated the Danish pair Daniel Lungaard/Mads Vestegraard.
