1. BMKG: 3 Cyclone Seeds Trigger Extreme Weather Risks in Indonesia
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has identified three tropical cyclone seeds forming in the vicinity of Indonesia, prompting extreme weather potential across several regions.
The Head of BMKG Teuku Faisal Fathani stated that based on observations from the Tropical Cyclone Warning Center (TCWC) Jakarta until 07:00 AM local time today, the three active systems include tropical cyclone seed 90S in the Indian Ocean south of Banten-West Java, tropical cyclone seed 93S northwest of mainland Australia, and tropical cyclone seed 92P in the Carpentaria Gulf south of South Papua.
"We are monitoring the movements of these three cyclone seeds intensely 24 hours a day. We urge the public to remain calm but to increase awareness of potential indirect impacts, such as floods or strong winds. Make sure to only refer to official BMKG channels to avoid misinformation and hoaxes," said Faisal in a written statement on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
2. Subsidized Fuel Prices in Indonesia Hold Steady Despite Rising Oil Prices
The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, said Indonesia’s subsidized fuel prices have not changed despite rising global oil prices caused by the escalating conflict in the Middle East. Non-subsidized fuel, which follows market dynamics, also remains unchanged.
“No matter how high global prices go, domestic subsidized fuel prices will remain the same until the government decides otherwise,” Bahlil said at a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
According to the 2026 State Budget, the Indonesian Crude Price (ICP) is set at US$70 per barrel, but current market prices have risen to US$78-80 per barrel.
Bahlil acknowledged that higher ICP could increase government spending on fuel subsidies but noted that the rise could also generate revenue from Indonesia’s production of about 600,000 barrels of oil per day.
3. List of Intimidation Acts Targeting Indonesian Activists, Influencers in 2025
As 2025 draws to a close, a troubling pattern of intimidation has emerged in Indonesia, targeting activists, influencers, artists, and journalists who have publicly voiced criticism over the government’s response to a series of major national issues and crises.
The acts of intimidation range from coordinated online harassment and threats to physical terror, including the delivery of animal carcasses, vandalism, and even an attempted firebombing. Those targeted share a common thread: outspoken criticism of disaster response efforts and environmental governance.
Greenpeace Activist Terrorized With Chicken Carcass
One of the most alarming cases involved Iqbal Damanik, Climate and Energy Campaign Manager at Greenpeace Indonesia. On Tuesday morning, December 30, 2025, his home was targeted in what the organization believes was an act of intimidation.
