If Beijing is the center of government and Shanghai is a business magnet, then Kaihua in China is known for its ecotourism. Kaihua is located in the eastern part of Zhejiang Province, within the Quzhou City. Tourists are flocking to relax in the Jinxing Village.

The Ecotourism Style in Jinxing Village, Kaihua

Jinxing Village is offering a natural beauty and a chance to relax, away from the bustling cities. Visitors can stay in one of the local houses, which maintain their original facade: stacked and terraced. Modern touches are added through interior decorations.

Currently, the Jinxing Village has 24 residential or homestay and farmstay accommodations, with total revenue surpassing 2 million yuan per year. These homestays are usually managed by families who have been living there for generations.

One of the residential managers, Lai Hui Hong, mentioned that the place they manage has 10 rooms, with an "average occupancy rate of 80 percent," Lai Hui Hong told Tempo on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The homestay is owned by a family. The owner was a fisher, and now it's managed by their son, who is a farmer. The majority of the Jinxing locals are fishers who make a living along the Qiantang River.

Visitors can also take a boat ride along the river or enjoy Instagram-friendly spots prepared by the local government, such as heart-shaped benches, swings with colorful decorations, and lanterns for added ambiance.

Traces of Xi Jinping in Jinxing Village

Aside from homestays and farmstays, some residents in Jinxing Village are stone craftspeople, like Zhon Hua. He resides in his grandmother's house: Liu Yu Lan. A photo of China's President Xi Jinping during his tenure as the Governor of Zhejiang in 2006 is displayed.

On August 16, 2006, Xi Jinping visited Jinxing Village. At that time, Xi expressed his hope that Kaihua would provide 'jobs for everyone and income for every family.'

This hope has transformed into a decree. The statement is forever carved on a wall in a meeting place that doubles as a cafe. Jinxing Village has started to implement the philosophy that 'water and mountains are valuable assets.'

Jinxing Village has initiated various projects, including environmental improvement initiatives and a "toilet revolution." Chinese toilets have long been infamous for being deemed dirty and unsanitary. As a result, four eco-friendly amusement parks and seven public toilets, as well as four large recreational areas, have been established. Now, the residents of Jinxing not only make a living as fishers and farmers but also through ecotourism.
