Trump Administration Eyeing to Receive $10 Billion from TikTok Deal

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United States under Donald Trump is expected to receive up to $10 billion or around Rp169 trillion from a deal that allows TikTok to continue operating in the country.

Sources cited by The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times indicate that the amount comes from new investors involved in the ownership transaction of TikTok. "The money is supposedly being paid by new investors, including Oracle and Silver Lake," as reported by The Verge on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

The same report mentioned that around $2.5 billion or approximately Rp42.2 trillion had been paid to the US Department of the Treasury when the deal was closed on January 22. The remaining payments will be made gradually in several subsequent stages.

This deal enables a group of investors to take majority ownership of TikTok with a transaction value of around $14 billion. If the $10 billion figure is accurate, it is equivalent to more than 70 percent of the total deal value.

This move is also seen as one of the latest examples of Trump's government dealing in private business transactions. Previously, the US government was reported to have acquired about 10 percent of Intel's shares last August, obtained a 'golden share' in US Steel, and received a 20 percent cut from the sale of Nvidia chips to China.

The TikTok-related deal also involves Larry Ellison, a supporter and major fundraiser for Trump who is a co-founder and CTO of Oracle.

US Vice President JD Vance previously stated that the TikTok entity in the US has a valuation of approximately $14 billion or around Rp237.4 trillion.
