TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A right-wing US Congress candidate in Texas, Valentina Gomez, has burned a copy of the Quran. The burning video was uploaded on X on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. She swore to eradicate Islam forever.
"Your daughters will be raped, and your sons will be beheaded, unless we eradicate Islam forever," said the pro-Trump influencer Valentina Gomez during her campaign. She was wearing camouflage pants and a campaign t-shirt depicting a silhouette of a rifle. As reported by Times of Israel, Gomez used a flamethrower to burn the Islamic holy book.
In the provocative recording, she falsely claimed that "America is a Christian country." Gomez also referred to the Muslim community as "terrorists," instructing them to go to one of the 57 Muslim countries. "There is only one true God, and that is the God of Israel," she said as cited by TRT.
Born in Colombia, Gomez is a politician who has never been elected. She has a history of using unpleasant tactics and hateful rhetoric towards Muslims, black people, and immigrants in an attempt to gain popularity and enter the political arena.
The campaign advertisement ended with a campaign logo featuring the 'i' in the word "Valentina" shaped like a bullet, above the slogan "Supported by Jesus Christ."
Valentina Gomez, 26, originally from Colombia, immigrated to the US with her family at a young age. In a tweet earlier this week, she described herself as armed, unvaccinated, and 100 percent prioritizing America.
As a loyal supporter of US President Donald Trump, Gomez challenged fellow Republican Party Representative John Carter to represent Texas's 31st Congressional District in the US House of Representatives.
Laura Loomer, a close friend of Trump, praised the ad. Loomer referred to it as the kind of energy I want to see from all Republican Party members of Congress.
Last December, Gomez uploaded a video pretending to execute an illegal immigrant. She called for public execution for anyone who raped or killed American citizens. "They don't deserve deportation; they deserve to be exterminated," Gomez said.
In the same interview, Gomez praised China's anti-Islam policy, which has detained over a million Uighur minority in re-education camps. According to the Trump administration's first-hand report, China has implemented forced labor and sterilization of the Uighur community.
Gomez's Actions Spark Outrage
Gomez's act of burning the Quran has sparked outrage. Many social media users noted that Gomez, who claimed to love Jesus and his mother Mary, did not show respect for both religious figures mentioned dozens of times, directly or indirectly, in the Islamic holy book.
"Jesus is mentioned positively 25 times and Mary 36 times in the Quran. Compare that with Talmud. @ValentinaForUSA why don't you respect Jesus and Mary for the sake of Zionists by burning the Quran?" wrote a social media user quoted from TRT.
"In the Quran, Jesus is mentioned 25 times; his mother, Mary, is mentioned even more often than in the New Testament, 34 times. An entire chapter is named after her; Surah 19 is entirely dedicated to her and tells the story of the miraculous birth of Jesus. She burned it, a foolish and unfortunate girl," another netizen said.
Richard Grenell, US President Donald Trump's special envoy for special missions, also criticized Gomez for undermining the First Amendment of the US Constitution. "Stop underestimating the First Amendment established by our predecessors. The US Constitution guarantees religious freedom. You don't understand our freedom well," he wrote on X.
Social media users suspected she was using religion to boost her new political ambitions. "Get out of my state; we have no place for intolerant and hate-filled people who do not believe in basic human rights such as the FIRST AMENDMENT, which guarantees religious freedom. Why don't you study its basics before running for office?" said a user to Gomez as quoted from TRT.
