US Intelligence Indicates Possible Israeli Strike on Iran's Nuclear Sites

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United States has obtained new intelligence data showing that Israel is preparing to attack Iran's nuclear facilities, even as negotiations between Tehran and Washington on Iran's nuclear program continue, according to a report on Tuesday.

According to Anadolu, a U.S. official told CNN that such a move would mark a "brazen break" from President Donald Trump's diplomatic push.

Israeli leaders have not yet made a final decision, "intercepted Israeli communications and observations of Israeli military movements" indicate an imminent attack, CNN reported, citing multiple sources familiar with the intelligence.

Someone familiar with the intelligence said, "the chance of an Israeli strike on an Iranian nuclear facility has gone up significantly in recent months."

"And the prospect of a Trump-negotiated US-Iran deal that doesn’t remove all of Iran’s uranium makes the chance of a strike more likely," the source told CNN.

The U.S. has been monitoring military activities in Israel, including the movement of air munitions and completion of air exercises, CNN reported, citing two sources.

However, a source familiar with the Trump administration's thinking said that Washington is unlikely to support Israeli operations against Iran's nuclear sites unless provoked by Tehran.

Trump had previously warned that Iran would face "something bad" if it did not promptly accept the U.S. proposal regarding its nuclear program.

Iranian officials have denied accepting the written proposal, either directly or indirectly.

On Tuesday, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that he was not confident the ongoing indirect nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington would yield "any meaningful outcome."
