TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka requested that residents’ basic needs be prioritized as part of a rapid, integrated, community-wide response to the disaster.
"In emergency response, the safety of residents and meeting urgent needs must be the top priority. No one should be left without assistance, including those in hard-to-access areas such as mountainous settlements," Gibran said, as quoted by ANTARA.
He conveyed this to representatives of the central government and the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) while reviewing infrastructure affected by the earthquake in Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Thursday.
To ensure effective handling in the field, the Vice President asked all relevant officials to do more than just wait for reports. He asked them to go directly to the scene to ensure that every directive is implemented and that any obstacles are addressed immediately.
"I ask all regional heads and Forkopimda to go directly to the field to ensure that every instruction is implemented without bureaucratic barriers. Every obstacle must be identified and resolved immediately, with clear responsibilities and timelines. I will report all issues and obstacles encountered in the field to the President," he said.
In the midst of these efforts, Gibran expressed his gratitude to all the staff who have been working in the field to assist the community since the beginning of the incident.
According to him, the response and collaboration of all elements in the field are crucial in ensuring that affected communities receive the assistance and support they need.
"I express my appreciation and thanks to all the staff who, since the first day of the incident, have been out in the field helping the community," he said.
