TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States looks forward to working closely with President Prabowo Subianto’s administration to promote prosperity for the people of both Indonesia and the US.
“The United States remains committed to strengthening cooperation with Indonesia in key areas such as energy, trade, information technology, and security,” Rubio stated in a press release from the US Embassy in Jakarta on Sunday, August 17, 2025, as quoted by Antara.
Rubio delivered the statement in commemoration of Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day, which falls on August 17. He described Indonesia as a partner that shares the US commitment to democratic values and a free and open Indo-Pacific.
He also emphasized that the US government highly values its longstanding relations with Indonesia and extended congratulations on the nation’s 80th Independence Day, offering warm regards to the Indonesian people.
Indonesia marked its 80th Independence Day on August 17, 2025, under the theme “United Sovereign, Prosperous People, Advanced Indonesia,” symbolizing the spirit of nationalism as a foundation for progress. President Prabowo Subianto presided over the Independence Day ceremony at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.
The celebration featured various events, including the Flag Parade of the Red and White and the Proclamation Text, as well as a People’s Festival and the Unity Carnival for Independence.
