TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Wildfire smoke has once again disrupted flight operations at Supadio International Airport in West Kalimantan. Ten flights had their schedules adjusted on Monday morning.
According to Mohamad Arifin, acting general manager at Supadio International Airport, the flights were disrupted due to "reduced visibility in the airport area," he said on Monday, August 31, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He said visibility fluctuated over the past week due to the wildfire haze, with morning visibility recorded below 1,000 meters and improving to over 2,000 meters during the day, citing local meteorological station.
Supadio Airport operational data recorded 10 arrival and departure flights with schedule changes on Monday, August 31, 2026.
"The affected flights include Lion Air's Pontianak-Surabaya route, Scoot's Singapore-Pontianak and Pontianak-Singapore routes, and Super Air Jet's flights on several routes," he said.
Additionally, Wings Air's Pontianak-Ketapang route, as well as several Batik Air and Super Air Jet flights to and from Jakarta, also experienced schedule adjustments. Arifin emphasized that passenger safety, security, and comfort remain the top priority in flight operations amidst the haze.
"We continue to monitor visibility conditions at the airport. Cross-agency coordination with relevant stakeholders is running smoothly to ensure all flight safety procedures are met," he said.
Supadio Airport continues to coordinate with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), AirNav Indonesia, airlines, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and the Kubu Raya Police to regularly monitor visibility developments.
The airport and airlines are also adjusting flight schedules while still observing safe visibility limits for takeoffs and landings.
The Indonesian flight operator PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia urges prospective passengers to double-check their flight status with their airlines and Supadio International Airport staff before heading to the airport.
