TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSPI) and the Labor Party will stage another protest at the parliament complex on Thursday, January 15, 2026, raising four demands by the workers.
President of KSPI, Said Iqbal, said the rally will be joined by approximately 500-1,000 workers from the Greater Jakarta (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi), Karawang, and Purwakarta regions.
Workers are also planning to visit the Ministry of Manpower. "The January 15 rally will raise four main demands," said Said Iqbal in a virtual press conference on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
Workers Raise Four Demands for Thursday Rally
The workers in Jakarta are demanding for the provincial government to revise the recently applied minimum wage to match the decent living needs (KHL) standards and establish a sectoral provincial minimum wage to be 5 percent above KHL. According to Said, Jakarta's minimum wage does not yet reflect the region's high living cost.
In West Java, workers are asking the governor to return the discretion of regency/city sectoral minimum wage in 19 regions in accordance with the regents' and mayors' recommendation.
The workers also demand the House of Representatives discuss and pass the new Manpower Law no later than October 2026, in accordance with the Constitutional Court decision Number 168 of 2024.
The workers also reject the indirect regional election plan through the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD). KSPI emphasizes demand for direct elections.
Said also requested the DPR to summon the Jakarta governor to justify the 2026 minimum wage determination, which is deemed inadequate compared to the industrial support regions.
Additionally, he believes that incentive and social assistance policies do not address the root problems of the workers. According to him, a wage hike remains necessary to maintain workers' purchasing power amid the continued price hikes.
The January 15 protest is part of the series of protests first held on December 30, 2025, and January 8, 2026. Workers continue to rally as the local governments fail to fulfill the demands.
