TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - More than 100 aid organizations are sounding the alarm about widespread mass starvation in the Gaza Strip, noting that even many of their own staff are suffering from food shortages.

International pressure on Israel is mounting due to the dire humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian territory. Despite Israel easing a two-month aid blockade at the end of May, Gaza's residents continue to face severe shortages of food and essential supplies. Civilians are frequently killed while attempting to receive aid at distribution points.

In a joint statement, 111 organizations, including Doctors Without Borders (MSF), Save the Children, and Oxfam, warned that their colleagues and the Palestinians they serve are growing weaker.

"As the Israeli government’s siege starves the people of Gaza, aid workers are now joining the same food lines, risking being shot just to feed their families," read the statement as reported by Al Arabiya.

These groups are urgently calling for an immediate ceasefire, the opening of all land crossings, and the free flow of aid through a UN-led mechanism.

The UN reported on Tuesday that Israeli attacks have killed over 1,000 Palestinians trying to access food aid since the U.S. and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation began operations in late May. Israel asserts that humanitarian aid is permitted into Gaza; however, it accuses Hamas of exploiting civilian suffering, including by stealing food to sell at inflated prices or by shooting civilians waiting for aid.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated on Tuesday that the "horror" experienced by Palestinians in Gaza under Israeli military attacks is unprecedented in recent years.

According to health officials cited by Al Jazeera, at least 10 Palestinians have starved to death in the besieged Gaza Strip in the last 24 hours. These deaths bring the toll of malnutrition-related fatalities to 111, with most occurring in recent weeks.

The Gaza Health Ministry reported on Wednesday that at least 100 more Palestinians, including 34 aid seekers, were killed in Israeli attacks in the past 24 hours.

The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed that 21 children under the age of five are among those who have died from malnutrition this year. WHO stated they were unable to deliver food for nearly 80 days between March and May, and that the resumption of food deliveries remains far below what is needed.
