2026 World Cup: England and Ghana Triumph, Uzbekistan Loses

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Colombia started their journey in Group K of the 2026 World Cup with a 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City on Thursday, June 18, 2026. Colombia's goals were scored by Daniel Munoz, Luis Diaz, and Jaminton Campaz, while Uzbekistan narrowed the lead through Abbosbek Fayzullaev.

Colombia dominated the game from the start. Jhon Arias threatened in the 17th minute, while Luis Diaz's shot hit the goal post in the 32nd minute. The team, known as Los Cafeteros, finally took the lead in the 40th minute when Daniel Munoz finished a pass from Diaz. The score remained 1-0 until halftime.

Uzbekistan rallied after the break. A change made by coach Fabio Cannavaro made their play more aggressive. This resulted in Fayzullaev equalizing in the 60th minute by capitalizing on a rebound from goalkeeper Camilo Vargas. This goal became Uzbekistan's first-ever goal in their World Cup appearance.

However, their momentum didn't last long. Five minutes later, Diaz put Colombia back in the lead with a goal thanks to his team's high pressure. As Uzbekistan tried to chase the deficit, Colombia secured the win through a header by substitute player Jaminton Campaz in the 90+9th minute.

This victory places Colombia at the top of Group K with three points. They are two points ahead of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Portugal, who drew 1-1 in the previous match.

England vs Croatia: Harry Kane Equals Gary Lineker's Record

On Thursday, June 18, 2026, England began their journey in Group L of the 2026 World Cup with a 4-2 victory over Croatia at the Dallas Stadium in the United States. Captain Harry Kane scored two goals, while Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford contributed one goal each.

With a total of 10 goals, Kane equaled Gary Lineker's record as the top scorer for England in the final rounds of the World Cup. The Bayern Munich striker also became the second player to score for England in three World Cup editions after David Beckham.

England took the lead first in the 12th minute through Kane's penalty. Kane's initial shot was saved by Dominik Livakovic, but the referee ordered a retake because the goalkeeper moved faster from the goal line. On the second chance, Kane didn't waste the opportunity.

Croatia equalized in the 36th minute through a long-range shot by Martin Baturina. However, England took the lead again six minutes later through Kane's header from Declan Rice's corner kick.

The team led by Zlatko Dalic equalized again to 2-2 just before halftime through Petar Musa. However, England immediately responded after the break. Just two minutes into the second half, Bellingham put the Three Lions back in the lead, 3-2, by finishing a pass from Elliott Anderson.

Croatia threatened to tie the game, but Jordan Pickford made a crucial save against Mario Pasalic's shot in the 76th minute. England then sealed the victory through Rashford's goal in the 85th minute. This result puts England at the top of the temporary standings in Group L with three points.

In another match, Ghana started their Group F journey in the 2026 World Cup with a narrow 1-0 victory over Panama on Thursday, June 18, 2026. This result earned Ghana three points and opened the opportunity to compete for a place in the round of 32.
