TEMPO.COJakarta - Deputy Ambassador of Australia to Indonesia, Gita Kamath, stated that 29 companies from the Land Down Under are exploring commercial opportunities and others at the Australia - Southeast Asia Business Exchange in Jakarta on November 10-11, 2025.

Indonesian companies and organizations are also involved in networking and collaboration in this business initiative. "Australian companies and organizations want to be part of Indonesia's journey towards self-sufficiency and food security," she said when met at Ayana Midplaza Jakarta on Monday, November 10, 2025.

Gita explained that the economic relations between the two countries are rapidly growing. Trade activities have increased almost threefold in the last five years since the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA) or the free trade agreement took effect in July 2020.

The amount of investment poured into Indonesia has reached 35 billion Australian dollars during the cooperation. Direct investment in Indonesia has also increased by 30 percent.

According to Gita, Australia is among the top ten countries for foreign direct investment in Indonesia. "This mission focuses on agricultural productivity and food security; these issues are the main focus for both Australia and Indonesia," she said.

Australian Business Champion Jennifer Westacott stated that 29 leading Australian companies have been deeply working in Indonesia. Currently, there is an investment of about 5 billion Australian dollars in the agricultural sector.

Jennifer said organizations from her country want to be part of efforts for food self-sufficiency and food security. The cooperation between the two countries is also accompanied by the development of capabilities, research and development of skills, and technology transfer. "We believe there are tremendous opportunities in terms of trade and investment," she said.

Deputy Ambassador of Australia to Indonesia, Gita Kamath, stated that the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Sydney may likely discuss agricultural issues and food security again. The discussion continued after the meeting between Prabowo and Albanese in Jakarta in May 2025.

"Including discussing various issues that support cooperation and partnership in the bilateral Australia-Indonesia relationship," said Gita.

Prabowo Subianto is ambitious about achieving food self-sufficiency in various agricultural commodities. This is being done through a number of national strategic projects in several regions of Indonesia.
