TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The oil tycoon Riza Chalid, also known as the "Godfather of Gasoline," has become a suspect in a corruption case related to the management of crude oil at PT Pertamina (Persero) and the cooperation contract contractors (KKKS) for the 2018-2023 period, along with 8 other suspects.
"Suspect MRC, as the beneficial owner of PT Navigator Khatulistiwa and PT Orbit Terminal Merak (OTM)," said the Director of Investigation of Jampidsus at the Attorney General's Office (AGO) when reading the list of 9 new suspects in a press conference in front of the AGO Building, Jakarta, on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
During the press conference, AGO revealed the role of each suspect in the Pertamina oil corruption case. "The role of each suspect in committing unlawful acts resulted in state and economic losses," said Qohar.
In this case, Riza is recorded to have agreed to a joint lease agreement for the Merak Fuel Oil Terminal along with the suspects HB (Hanung Budya), AN (Alfian Nasution), and GRJ (Gading Ramadhan Joedo). The four of them are considered to have acted against the law by intervening in PT Pertamina's management policy in the lease, by inserting a joint lease plan for the Merak Fuel Oil Terminal, when at that time, PT Pertamina did not require additional fuel stock storage.
Furthermore, Riza also played a role in eliminating the ownership scheme of the Merak Fuel Oil Terminal in the cooperation contract. "As well as establishing a high contract price."
However, AGO has not detained Riza despite being designated as a suspect. Qohar mentioned that Riza's status is currently a fugitive and is on the wanted list (DPO).
Since this case unfolded, investigators have made three attempts to summon the suspect. However, he has never responded to the summons. "Based on information, the individual is not residing in the country," said Qohar.
He said that they had received information indicating that Riza is currently in Singapore. Thus, the investigators have coordinated with the representatives of the Indonesian AGO there.
