Aiming for 10,000 Low-Emission Houses by 2025, BTN Actively Brings Together Environmentally Friendly Material Producers and Developers

BUSINESS INFO - In support of President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita initiative for a green economy, PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development by targeting 10,000 low-emission homes by 2025. As part of these efforts, BTN is actively connecting SME producers of environmentally friendly materials with housing developer partners.

This initiative is also part of BTN’s roadmap toward constructing 150,000 low-emission housing units (RRE) by 2029. BTN also aims for at least 15% use of environmentally friendly materials in each low-emission housing unit starting in 2025.

BTN's Director of Risk Management, Setiyo Wibowo, emphasized that climate change is a global reality whose impacts are already being felt in Indonesia. "This is BTN's effort to support President Prabowo Subianto's vision of achieving a green economy, including in the housing sector. This year, we hope to have 10,000 low-emission homes, which will serve as a stepping stone for us to work together for the good of our planet," Setiyo said during the Low-Emission Housing Socialization event in Bandung on Wednesday (4/6).

Setiyo continued, efforts to increase the number of low-emission houses are also a strategic step for BTN to support the Indonesian government's target of limiting global warming to below 1.5°C and achieving net zero emissions by 2060. Moreover, global warming has already caused irregular rainy seasons and rising sea levels.

“Climate change has an impact on economic growth as it affects the food supply chain and spreads to other sectors. Therefore, BTN, as an economic enabler, will also strive to support the development of low-emission homes for sustainable economic growth,” explained Setiyo.

Meanwhile, by the end of 2024, BTN has partnered with 8 developers who have begun implementing 10% environmentally friendly materials in the construction of 1,367 housing units in 2024. Setiyo noted that if the target of 150,000 low-emission housing units is achieved, it will result in a reduction of over 2.2 million kilograms of plastic waste, equivalent to 1.3 billion packets of instant noodles. Additionally, there will be a reduction of 2,425 tons of carbon emissions, equivalent to planting 110,000 trees.

“Through this initiative, BTN demonstrates its commitment not only to providing affordable and decent housing but also to promoting a low-emission lifestyle and sustainable economic growth for Indonesia,” said Setiyo.
