TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate General of Air Transportation under Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation has confirmed that all Airbus A320 aircraft operating in the country are airworthy and safe to fly.
The announcement comes after the Directorate completed inspections of aircraft control system software, in line with a safety directive from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
The inspections focused on the Aileron Elevator Computer (ELAC) software, affecting the entire A320 fleet in Indonesia. This followed EASA’s Emergency Airworthiness Directive issued on 28 November.
“All Airbus A320 aircraft operating in Indonesia are deemed airworthy,” said Lukman F. Laisa, Director General of Air Transportation, in a statement on Tuesday, 2 December 2025.
To ensure compliance, the Directorate issued an airworthiness directive requiring each aircraft to meet safety standards before returning to passenger service. Airlines operating Airbus A320s have followed technical instructions and completed the necessary software repairs.
“We appreciate the airlines. The repair process has been running smoothly and has not disrupted national flight operations,” Lukman added.
Indonesia has six airlines operating the Airbus A320: Batik Air, Super Air Jet, Citilink, Indonesia AirAsia, Pelita Air, and TransNusa. In total, 207 A320 aircraft are under the Directorate’s oversight, with 143 actively flying. Of these, 38 aircraft required software inspections and adjustments following the EASA directive.
The coordinated inspection and repair program demonstrates Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining international aviation safety standards while minimizing disruptions to domestic air travel.
