TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The acid attack case involving Andrie Yunus, deputy coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), has entered a new phase after prosecutors transferred the case to a military court.
The Military Oditur II-07 Jakarta, acting as the military prosecutor, on Thursday submitted the case file to the Military Court II-08 Jakarta for trial proceedings.
“The case file has met both formal and material requirements and has therefore been transferred for trial,” said Chief Military Prosecutor Colonel Andri Wijaya during a press briefing.
The move follows the completion of investigations by the Indonesian Military Police, which named four Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel as suspects. Their case files have been declared complete and ready for prosecution.
Prosecutors have filed layered charges under Law No. 1 of 2023, with a maximum penalty of 12 years in prison. The primary charge carries a sentence of up to 12 years, while subsidiary charges carry penalties of up to eight and seven years, respectively.
However, the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), which represents Andrie, has criticized the charges as insufficient. The legal team argued that the case should be treated as attempted premeditated murder rather than serious assault.
“Based on legal assessments conducted with several experts, there are strong indications of attempted premeditated murder in this case,” said TAUD member Gema Gita Persada.
In a separate report filed with the Criminal Investigation Agency, the legal team also included allegations of terrorism, citing statements by President Prabowo Subianto, who previously described the attack as an act of terror.
Andrie Yunus was attacked with corrosive chemicals on March 12 while passing through an intersection on Jalan Salemba in Central Jakarta. Medical reports indicated he suffered burns covering more than 20 percent of his body.
Authorities said the attack was carried out by personnel linked to the Strategic Intelligence Agency. According to investigators, four suspects—identified by their initials as NDP, SL, BHW, and ES—have been named.
The suspects come from Indonesia’s air force and navy. NDP holds the rank of captain, SL and BHW are first lieutenants, and ES is a second sergeant.
