TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – A 14-year-old schoolgirl identified by her initials, AP, died after being struck by a train at Jurangmangu Station in Ciputat, South Tangerang, Banten, on Monday afternoon, August 10, 2026.
South Tangerang Police Public Relations Section Head Second Inspector Yudhi Susanto said the incident remained under investigation as of Wednesday, August 12.
“It is still under investigation,” Yudhi told Tempo.
According to Antara, Ciputat Timur Police Chief Commissioner Bambang Askar Sodiq said the incident was believed to have occurred at around 4:43 p.m. local time. Station security officers received a report that someone had fallen from the platform onto the railway tracks.
“Officers on duty, together with the Identification Unit of the South Tangerang Police Criminal Investigation Division, immediately went to the scene to handle the incident and conduct a crime scene examination,” Bambang said in Jakarta on Tuesday, August 11.
Based on preliminary statements from witnesses, AP was on the platform when a train traveling from Tanah Abang entered Jurangmangu Station.
“Based on the initial examination at the scene, police found that the victim had died from injuries to the head,” Bambang said.
Police, assisted by station personnel, evacuated AP’s body and took it to the South Tangerang Regional General Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Authorities have questioned several witnesses, including one of the victim’s school friends. The witness and AP had traveled together to Jurangmangu Station after school. Once at the station, however, they decided to wait for their trains on separate platforms.
Police also collected several of the victim’s belongings as evidence. Officers have contacted the victim’s family and coordinated with station authorities as the investigation continues.
KAI Commuter expressed its condolences over the incident. KAI Commuter Public Relations representative Leza Arlan said the incident was handled according to established procedures.
“We have also coordinated with the police, medical services and, of course, informed the family,” Leza said in a written statement cited on Wednesday, August 12.
