ASEAN All-Stars vs. Man Utd: Indonesia's Malik Risaldi, Kakang Rudianto Join the Team

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two Indonesian football players, Malik Risaldi and Kakang Rudianto, have been selected to join the ASEAN All-Stars team, set to face the famous English Premier League club, Manchester United, in a friendly match. The game will take place on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The news of Malik Risaldi's inclusion was confirmed by Jonathan Yohvinno Thamrin, media officer for his club, Persebaya Surabaya. "Yes, we have received the call-up from the AFF (ASEAN Football Federation), and Malik will depart to face Manchester United," he stated in a press release shared with the media on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

Jonathan emphasized that this call-up presents a golden opportunity for the 29-year-old Persebaya forward. "This is a golden opportunity to show that Southeast Asian players also possess quality. We are proud that Malik can be part of this great moment," he added.

Persib Bandung, Kakang Rudianto's club, also welcomed his selection to the ASEAN All-Stars team. "Since the Liga 1 competition has ended, we are allowing Kakang to join the ASEAN All-Stars against Manchester United. Congratulations and good luck to Kakang," said Adhitia Putra Herawan, Deputy CEO of Persib Bandung, as quoted from the club's official website on Tuesday.

Kakang shared his determination to perform his best if he gets to play against the English club. "I am very happy to be trusted by the coach. If I get the chance to play, I will show my very best," he said during a training session with the team in Malaysia, a day before the match.

Malik and Kakang will play under the guidance of Kim Sang Sik, the coach of the Vietnam national team. The 48-year-old South Korean coach has been given the job of leading the ASEAN All-Stars team.

Previously, two other Indonesian players, Asnawi Mangkualam and Muhammad Ferarri, were called up to face Manchester United but were unable to participate. Asnawi could not join as he is currently undergoing training with the Indonesian national team under Patrick Kluivert for their final two 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in the Asian zone in June. Meanwhile, Ferarri was reportedly not allowed by Persija Jakarta, as he was focusing on the upcoming 2024-2025 Liga 1 matches. He is no longer representing Persija.

Manchester United is currently on a Southeast Asia tour as part of their pre-season preparations. The squad, under the guidance of Ruben Amorim, departed three days after their last match against Aston Villa in the final Premier League fixture, which ended in a 2-0 victory for United. This result placed them 15th in the league with 42 points, from 11 wins and nine draws.

The friendly match between the ASEAN All-Stars and Manchester United is set for Wednesday, at 7:45 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time).
