Bank Indonesia Extends Credit Card Payment Incentive Until Year-End

2 hours ago 6

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Bank Indonesia extends the relief for credit card bill payment until December 31, 2026. The policy has been extended multiple times and was originally set to be concluded by June this year.

Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo said this is part of the efforts to strengthen the digital payment system to support the country's economic growth.

"The minimum payment policy for credit card holders is 5 percent of the total bill, and the late fee policy is a maximum of 1 percent of the total bill and not exceeding Rp100,000," Perry said at the monthly Bank Indonesia board of governors' press conference on Thursday, 18 June 2026.

Bank Indonesia also extends the fee policy for the Bank Indonesia National Clearing System (SKNBI). The SKNBI fee is set at Rp1 from Bank Indonesia to the bank, and the maximum SKNBI fee is Rp2,900 from the bank to the customer.

BI Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta added that reason for the credit card bill payment incentive is to stimulate economic growth.

"Since we know that with the pressure on people's purchasing power, we need to support growth because this payment system policy is pro-growth," she said.

Filianingsih stated that the credit card transaction volume has reached 45.4 million transactions, growing 8.6 percent year-on-year. Meanwhile, the credit card transaction nominal value reached Rp42.9 trillion, growing 13.4 percent y-o-y.

According to Filianingsih, the middle class could leverage this policy as a buffer for consumption smoothing. "It primarily helps the middle class to buffer consumption, and ultimately to support credit growth," she said.
