Baznas Reports 2025 Zakat Funds Reach Rp41tn

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Noor Achmad, Chair of the National Alms Agency (Baznas), announced that this year's zakat or alms collections reached Rp41 trillion. "Specifically in Jakarta, Baznas has collected Rp1.2 trillion," he said during the zakat handover event at the State Palace in Central Jakarta on Thursday, March 27, 2025.

Noor explained that the number of people paying zakat, or muzaki, continues to rise. In 2024, 28.1 million people paid zakat, an increase from the previous year. "The number of muzaki has increased greatly. In 2021, it was 10 million people. In 2022, it became 21 million people, and in 2023, it was 27 million people," he said.

He said that the zakat funds support various programs in the economy, health, and education sectors. He mentioned, for instance, a program that sends interns to Japan. Baznas plans to send 2,000 people to Japan each year. "We fund their education through Baznas," he said.

During the same event, President Prabowo Subianto said that zakat helps to reduce social inequality, promote wealth equality, and show social justice. "Zakat is a manifestation of social justice and equal welfare. Hopefully, the zakat we pay will perfect our Ramadan prayers and increase our devotion to Allah," he said at the State Palace in Central Jakarta on Thursday, March 27, 2025.

According to Prabowo, many people still face difficult times leading up to Eid al-Fitr 2025. They are struggling to survive. Giving zakat is one way to help them. "By paying zakat, we can share with others. We can help the poor lighten their burdens, and also prevent them from being stingy," he said.

The Head of State added that the problem of extreme poverty can be addressed with Rp30 trillion. Since Baznas collected Rp41 trillion this year, he sees Baznas as having the potential to combat extreme poverty.

"Our calculations show we can eliminate extreme poverty with Rp30 trillion. Imagine the role of Baznas this year in overcoming extreme poverty; it means the role of Baznas is strategic," Prabowo said. He also urged state officials to strengthen Baznas and called for transparent and effective zakat management.
