BNPB Reports 743 Dead in Sumatra Flood Disaster

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported the death toll from floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra as of Tuesday, December 3, 2025, has reached 743 people, according to the Indonesian Disaster Data Geoportal owned by BNPB.

"743 people have died," wrote the Indonesian Disaster Data Geoportal report accessed on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

The report also stated that 630 people were missing and 2,600 people were injured. The disaster affected a total of 3.3 million residents from 50 regencies/cities, including 1.5 million in Aceh, 1.7 million in North Sumatra, and 141.8 thousand in West Sumatra.

Meanwhile, 1.5 million people are still displaced in Aceh, 538,800 in North Sumatra, and 106,200 in West Sumatra.

The Head of the Data, Information, and Communication Center for Disaster Management of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Abdul Muhari, previously stated that the death toll had reached 708 people as of Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

"The details are that North Sumatra has 294 deaths and 155 missing. Meanwhile, in Aceh as of today, there are 218 deaths and 227 missing," said Abdul Muhari in a press conference on the flood and landslide response in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, as quoted by Antara.

The most affected regencies in North Sumatra are Central Tapanuli, South Tapanuli, Sibolga, and North Tapanuli. Logistics distribution for North Sumatra is conducted through three modes of transportation. Six trucks, each carrying 15 tons of logistics, are being sent to North Sumatra for land transportation. In terms of sea logistics, 100 tons of rice will be delivered from Jakarta to Sibolga.

"Aid will be loaded in Sibolga to be distributed to the affected regencies/cities, either by land or air routes," said Abdul Muhari.

For air transportation, currently, 7 helicopters are on standby in Silangit, North Tapanuli, and will be supplemented by 3 helicopters from the Indonesian National Army (TNI) and 4 helicopters from BNPB.
