TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tottenham Hotspur advanced to the third round of the 2026/27 Carabao Cup after crushing Championship side Charlton Athletic 5-1 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday, Indonesian time. In another match, Newcastle United had to work hard to defeat West Bromwich Albion 3-2.
Tottenham built a two-goal lead in the first half. Mikey Moore opened the scoring for Spurs before Dominic Solanke doubled the lead to give the hosts a 2-0 cushion at halftime.
Heading into the second half, Tottenham proved unstoppable. Kevin Danso scored the third goal before new signing Savio extended the lead to 4-0.
Ben Davies then completed Tottenham's scoring spree with a fifth. Charlton could only manage a consolation goal through Lloyd Jones in the 87th minute.
Tottenham closed out the match with a resounding 5-1 victory and secured their place in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United also advanced, but faced a tight encounter when they hosted West Bromwich Albion at St. James' Park.
West Brom took the lead in the 19th minute through Isaac Price. Newcastle then responded through Bazoumana Toure to make it 1-1.
The Magpies took the lead early in the second half after Harvey Barnes scored. However, Price proved a nightmare for Newcastle again, scoring his second goal to equalize.
Newcastle finally secured victory in the 81st minute. Barnes scored again, giving the hosts a 3-2 lead until the final whistle.
This result means Tottenham and Newcastle both advance to the third round of the 2026/27 Carabao Cup.
