TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chelsea has reached the final of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after defeating the Brazilian club Fluminense 2-0 in the semifinal at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey in the early hours of Wednesday, July 9. Chelsea's debutant player Joao Pedro became the hero of the victory with his two goals.
In the final, Chelsea will face the winner of the other semifinal between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain scheduled to take place in the early hours of Thursday.
Chelsea immediately applied pressure from the beginning of the match with high intensity. The first chance came from Marc Cucurella who almost scored a header, but Fabio was alert and saved his goal.
Chelsea's pressure continued when Tosin Adarabioyo received a dead ball from Enzo Fernandez. His powerful header narrowly missed the goal and left The Blues' bench holding their breath in disappointment.
The first goal was eventually scored through Joao Pedro's action in the 18th minute. He pounced on a loose ball from outside the penalty box and shot it to the top corner, beyond Fabio's reach. Chelsea led 1-0.
Fluminense tried to respond and momentarily got a chance through Hercules who broke into the penalty box. Unfortunately, his shot was cleared by Cucurella before crossing the goal line.
Fluminense was awarded a penalty for a suspected handball by Trevoh Chalobah. However, the referee overturned his decision after reviewing the VAR footage.
Approaching half-time, Chelsea almost added another goal through two consecutive chances from Pedro Neto and Nkunku.
After the break, Chelsea continued to play aggressively with a series of threats that troubled Fluminense's defense.
Cucurella had a golden opportunity after receiving a short pass from Fernandez. However, his finish was not perfect, causing the ball to miss on the right side of Fluminense's goal.
Chelsea's second goal came in the 56th minute through Joao Pedro. A quick counter-attack was completed with a shot that hit the post before nestling into the net.
The score of 2-0 made Chelsea more confident in dictating the game.
Despite being two goals up, Chelsea didn't stop pressuring. Christopher Nkunku created a chance in the penalty box, followed by an individual effort from Nicolas Jackson that almost resulted in a third goal.
Fluminense threatened during injury time with a close-range header from Keno, but missed the target.
