TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A shortage of memory chips in the global supply chain may delay the launch of the new MacBook Pro and Mac Studio. A report by Macrumors on Sunday, April 19, 2026, mentioned that the previously scheduled release of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro at the end of 2026 will now debut in the following year. The review stated, "In other words, early 2027 is now more likely than late 2026."

The global shortage of memory chips has disrupted the supply chain of essential components for Apple devices. The release of the next-generation Mac Studio, originally scheduled for mid-2026, may also be delayed. The device is estimated to be distributed in October.

In terms of specifications, according to the assessment of technology journalist Mark Gurman quoted by Macrumors, the new MacBook Pro will feature significant updates, including a touchscreen, M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, an OLED panel, a Dynamic Island feature, and a thinner design. The device is also rumored to carry a new brand and the macOS 27 operating system, with a more touch-friendly interface.

Meanwhile, the Mac Studio is projected to come with M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. No significant design changes are expected in this desktop line. Overall, updates for the Mac Studio are predicted to arrive first in October 2026, followed by the touchscreen MacBook Pro in early 2027.

Apple has previously been reported to be facing a supply chain crisis involving key components in chip production. This situation is due to the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, which has triggered a shortage of glass cloth, a vital material for the production of advanced electronic devices. The component crisis is estimated to persist until the second half of 2027.

Apple is one of the first companies to use glass cloth fibers in iPhone chips. This material was chosen for its dimensional stability, rigidity, and its ability to facilitate high-speed data transmission. Due to the superiority of this component, many chip companies have switched to glass cloth fibers, leading to the current scarcity.
