TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Investment Management Agency Danantara, Dony Oskaria, has responded to rumors that a Finance Director from Singapore Airlines will be recruited for the state-owned airline company PT Garuda Indonesia. Dony neither confirmed nor denied the news, but he emphasized the government's overarching goal.

"The main thing to consider is not the issue itself, but the government's strong desire to carry out a fundamental transformation, which is more important," he stated.

When asked about the individual who will fill the vacant position, Oskaria noted that Danantara wants to find the best candidate but asked the public to wait for further developments. "About the personnel, of course, we want the best. But it's still uncertain, so let's see how the developments unfold," he said.

As the Acting Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), he explained that Danantara uses an independent assessment process to find qualified candidates.

Parliamentary Scrutiny

The question about the potential recruitment of an executive from Singapore Airlines was first raised by Mufti Anam, a member of the House of Representatives' (DPR) Commission VI. During a meeting with Garuda's management on Monday, September 22, 2025, Mufti questioned why the information was being withheld if the rumors were true.

"We heard that an executive from Singapore Airlines will join the board of directors at Garuda Indonesia, is that true? We want a response to this. If it's true, why should it be concealed?" Mufti questioned during the meeting.

Mufti expressed concern that simply hiring a foreign executive, no matter how smart, would not fix Garuda's issues if its corporate culture and governance remain unchanged. He also argued that qualified Indonesian citizens should be given priority for such a position.

In response, Garuda Indonesia's Commercial Director Reza Aulia Hakim stated that the decision on the new director would be left entirely to the main shareholder, Danantara.
