TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Investment Management Agency Danantara Indonesia is preparing an investment of Rp20 trillion to establish chicken farms to support the food needs of the Free Nutritious Meal program (MBG). "We will establish farms across Indonesia to supply the National Nutrition Agency (BGN)," said Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman in a statement on Friday, November 7, 2025.

Amran stated that the trillions of rupiah allocated for building chicken farms aim to strengthen the national supply of chicken and eggs. This initiative also aims to increase production and support the MBG program. With this investment, Indonesia will not face shortages of eggs and chicken.

Besides providing funds to support the MBG's needs, Amran mentioned that Danantara has agreed to invest Rp371 trillion to accelerate downstream activities in the agricultural, plantation, farming, and horticultural sectors.

Amran mentioned that the Ministry of Agriculture will soon finish a feasibility study and hand it over to Danantara's CEO, who is also the Minister of Investment and Downstream Activities, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani. Most of the investment will be allocated to plantation crops, such as sugarcane, cocoa, and cashews. Amran is confident that the downstream activities can increase the value of commodities by up to 500 percent.

Furthermore, through the downstream program implemented in North Maluku, Amran demonstrated that the price of raw coconuts could increase from Rp600 to Rp3,500 per piece. "In the future, with a larger industry, the value could increase by 20 to 100 times."

In addition to raising the price of commodities, Amran is optimistic that the downstream program will create up to eight million jobs.

Rosan is confident that the agricultural sector can absorb more labor than the mineral products sector. "If the investment in downstream mineral activities is significant, the absorbed workforce is minimal."

Danantara and the Ministry of Agriculture, according to Rosan, have identified priority downstream projects and assigned several state-owned enterprises to execute them. Danantara is committed to supporting and participating in the evaluation of each stage of the agricultural and plantation downstream program.
