TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Danantara CEO Rosan Perkasa Roeslani stated that his company will lead the purchase of land for the Hajj Village in Saudi Arabia. Rosan said that Saudi Arabia has offered several plots of land to the Indonesian government.
“The plots range from 25 to over 80 hectares,” Rosan said on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta.
The Minister of Investment and Industry and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) stated that the Saudi Arabian government will revise land ownership laws to allow foreign countries to purchase land in Saudi Arabia. "Perhaps the regulation will be effectively implemented in January," he said.
Rosan mentioned that the Saudi Arabian government offered land to the Indonesian government for the construction of a hajj village. The land is in close proximity to the Masjidil Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
"Some of the plots are adjacent to eight plots near Mecca. Some are one kilometer away; others are two kilometers from Mecca," he said.
He stated that the Saudi Arabian government has requested that the Indonesian government submit a design for the Hajj Village infrastructure. The deadline for submission is October 2025.
Rosan mentioned that Danantara will oversee the construction of the Hajj Village. One reason is that the land will be used for commercial purposes as well. "A commercial area will be built as well," he said.
He stated that land prices vary depending on the type of land. He declined to provide detailed pricing information, only stating that several types of land are offered. Some have hilly terrain, and some still have inhabitants.
"But the relocation is a matter for Saudi Arabia. We'll accept it as is," he said.
On Sunday, July 13, 2025, Rosan announced that the Hajj village for Indonesian pilgrims would be 400 meters from the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud (MBS), has already approved the location. However, Rosan did not provide specific details about the location.
During a press conference in Brussels, Belgium, on Sunday, July 13, 2025, Rosan said, "The Crown Prince has approved the request from President Prabowo," as observed on the President's Secretariat YouTube channel.
The Indonesian hajj village in Saudi Arabia was proposed by President Prabowo. Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, the head of the Hajj Organizing Agency (BP Haji), stated that the Indonesian government has formed a team to evaluate establishing the hajj village.
However, the government has not yet determined the total budget needed. A Gerindra Party member stated that little can be disclosed about the plan because it is entirely under President Prabowo Subianto's command. "We await the President's instructions," he said.
