TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) stated that the global geopolitical situation is not in a good shape right now. According to Yudhoyono, national leaders bear a moral responsibility to prevent the world from heading in the wrong direction.
Therefore, he urges global leaders to take concrete actions. SBY delivered this message during the national Christmas celebration of the Democratic Party in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Monday night, January 12, 2026.
"Everyone is responsible, and should do something to ensure that the world we love moves forward, becomes more peaceful, fairer, and more prosperous," said Yudhoyono, quoted from the broadcast on the Democratic Party's YouTube account.
The Chair of the Democratic Party's High Assembly stated that the world provides many lessons that there are countries living in darkness. Those countries have no hope for their own future. "Why does it happen? Because they fail to knit brotherhood, togetherness, and harmony," said Yudhoyono.
According to him, those nations are divided and torn apart. They are trapped in an atmosphere of continuous conflict and hostility. "Certainly, such an example is not what we want to build and aim for in our country," he said.
He emphasized that Indonesia must not choose that path. Therefore, Yudhoyono urged the country, in this case the Indonesian government and the leaders, to take moral responsibility to ensure Indonesia remains harmonious.
Yudhoyono reminded that unity and harmony must always be maintained and nurtured at all times. "It is the mission, obligation, and responsibility of the leaders in this country, including religious leaders, community leaders, as well as those who are entrusted to lead the nation and the government," said Yudhoyono.
