TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An explosion outside the district court in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, killed at least 12 people and injured several others on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, according to local media reports, in what is believed to be a car bomb attack.

The explosion occurred near the main entrance of the District and Sessions Court in Islamabad, an area frequented by lawyers, plaintiffs, and police personnel. The situation quickly turned chaotic, with emergency personnel rushing to aid the injured victims.

"We are probing what kind of blast it was. It is not clear yet," said a police spokesperson as reported by the Afghan website Amu.tv. "We will be able to provide more details after we get a report from our forensic team."

Images broadcasted by local television showed bodies lying on the ground near the destroyed police vehicle, and bloodstains tarnishing the sidewalks around the court complex.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Authorities have sealed off the area and launched an investigation into the incident.

Although Islamabad has largely been insulated from the waves of violence that have engulfed other parts of Pakistan in recent years, the city has experienced an uptick in attacks in the past few months, many of which are suspected to be carried out by the Pakistani Taliban, also known as Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The bombing on Tuesday added to concerns about security in the capital ahead of the scheduled national elections early next year.

The explosion also occurred just hours after a suspected car bomb explosion at the Red Fort, a legendary tourist attraction in the Indian capital, New Delhi, on Monday night. At least 13 people were killed in that incident. This prompted authorities on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, to invoke the national anti-terrorism law as they launched an investigation into the explosion.
