TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister for Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf, familiarly known as Gus Ipul, said the government, to pay respect, will provide an annual allowance of Rp57 million to the families of national heroes.
"To pay respect and appreciate [the national heroes], and so the families can continue their spirit, we are providing support of Rp57 million per year," said Gus Ipul at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Monday, November 10, 2025.
According to the minister, the cash assistance is intended to foster ties with the families of the national heroes. "Please do not focus on the values, as the cash assistance is aimed at fostering ties," he said.
President Prabowo Subianto bestowed national hero titles on 10 figures during the National Hero Title Bestowal Ceremony at the State Palace on Monday, November 10, 2025. The bestowal is in accordance with the Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 116/TK/2025.
Among the names are former President Abdurrahman Wahid, labor activist Marsinah, and former Commander of the Army Para-Commando Regiment (RPKAD) Sarwo Edhie Wibowo.
The other seven are former President Soeharto, former Minister of Law Mochtar Kusumaatmadja, Rahmah El Yunusiyyah, Sultan Muhammad Salahuddin, Syaikhona Muhammad Kholil, Tuan Rondahaim Saragih, and Sultan Tidore Sultan Zainal Abidin Syah.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi explained that the titles are given as a form of tribute to past leaders who have made great contributions to the nation. "How we honor our predecessors, especially leaders, who undoubtedly have extraordinary contributions to the nation and the state," said Prasetyo.
