TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The world gold price closed at US$4,332 per troy ounce on Saturday, January 3, 2026. Meanwhile, domestically, the price of bullion gold produced by PT Aneka Tambang Tbk. (Antam) closed at Rp2,488,000 per gram.
Observer of currency and commodities Ibrahim Assuaibi predicts that the world gold price could soar to US$4,426 per troy ounce on Monday, January 5, 2026. Meanwhile, he predicts the precious metal price to rise to Rp2,518,000 per gram at the opening of trading next week.
The Director of PT Traze Andalan Futures stated that the precious metal price could rise to Rp2,610,000 per gram at the end of next week or on Saturday, January 10, 2026. "If the gold price rises within a week, it is likely to return to US$4,505 per troy ounce. While the precious metal will be at Rp2,610,000 per gram," Ibrahim said in his statement on Sunday, January 4, 2025.
According to Ibrahim, the potential increase in the price of gold is triggered by the current geopolitical situation, especially the United States (US)' move to attack Venezuela and capture its leader. As is known, the United States forces have kidnapped and captured President Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela.
Ibrahim believes that the capture of Maduro is likely to significantly increase the price of gold, even experiencing a gap up in Monday morning trading. "This is likely to cause the price of gold to rise again and in this morning's trading, the world gold price is likely to experience a gap up," he said.
Furthermore, Ibrahim stated that the easy attack and capture of the leader of Venezuela by the US, as well as President Donald Trump's aggression without consulting Congress, are other geopolitical conditions that are likely to affect the increase in gold prices.
Another geopolitical condition that also influences the rise in gold prices is the demonstrations in Iran triggered by the soaring cost of living. On Sunday, December 28, 2026, the Iranian rial fell to 1.42 million against the US dollar, a 56 percent decrease in six months.
Clashes between law enforcement and participants in the demonstrations have resulted in casualties in Iran. "This has also received condemnation from America, because America will intervene if Iranian forces shoot at the demonstrators," Ibrahim said.
