TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian oil company PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) announced that two ships previously detained in the Strait of Hormuz are now ready to transit. Previously, ships passing through had to follow strict procedures set by the Iranian authorities.
"Currently, Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) is actively monitoring and preparing a safe passage plan for ships Pride and Gamsunoro to cross the Strait of Hormuz," said Vega Pita, Acting Corporate Secretary of Pertamina International Shipping, in an official statement on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
Following the announcement that the blockade has been lifted, these ships can transit. The strategies prepared by PIS include route planning, risk identification, electronic navigation, and contingency planning.
Vega stated that PIS is actively coordinating with various relevant parties, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to help establish diplomatic communication with the relevant authorities.
In addition, the company is coordinating with insurance companies, ship management, cargo owners, and local authorities to ensure that all licensing procedures are properly fulfilled. "The company's priority remains the safety of the ship's crew, as well as the security of the ship and all its cargo," he added.
On Friday, April 17, 2026, Iran announced that the Strait of Hormuz was "fully open" amid a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, after being closed by Iran since late February 2026 due to attacks by the U.S. and Israel.
Following the lifting of the blockade, global oil prices started to decline. Brent crude oil prices dropped by about 10 percent on Friday after Iran declared the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil prices fell by 10.29 percent.
