TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has allocated Rp13.3 billion in aid to restore educational services in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, which were hit by floods and landslides.
This aid marks the ministry's first step in ensuring that learning activities are not interrupted for too long. It also maps the damage to educational facilities that have not yet been fully assessed.
The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu'ti, expressed his condolences and confirmed that the ministry is finalizing the details of the damage to schools before distributing more technical aid. "We have prepared school equipment aid and other support for affected students. Currently, access to the location is still being restored, so the data collection is being coordinated intensively with the Regional Education Offices (UPT)," said Mu'ti as quoted from the official statement on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
In addition to the Rp13.3 billion budget from the central government, the Education Ministry is also raising funds through the Ministry's National Amil Zakat Agency (UPZ Baznas) for the public who wish to participate. Mu'ti emphasized the importance of public solidarity, noting that the needs of the victims, including children, extend beyond the physical repair of school buildings.
The ministry emphasizes that the education recovery process should not stop at logistics distribution. According to Mu'ti, psychosocial support services for students are also a priority, especially for children who have experienced trauma due to the disaster. He stated that the ministry will prioritize affected schools to receive the Education Unit Revitalization program in 2026.
"When accurate data is gathered, we can plan to ensure that learning continues. The most important thing at the moment is to ensure that the victims are well taken care of," said Mu'ti.
It is said that the recording of education facility damage in the three provinces is still ongoing. The ministry has not yet provided details on the number of damaged schools or estimated long-term needs. They are awaiting conditions in the field that will allow officials to slowly access the area again.
