TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Indomobil Sukses Internasional Tbk, through its subsidiary, PT IMG Sejahtera Langgeng, has officially become the distributor of the luxury car brand Hongqi from China. The company has signed a collaboration agreement with FAW Group Import & Export Co., Ltd. on Monday, July 7, 2025.
The President Director of Indomobil, Jusak Kertowidjojo, stated that the company will manage the distribution of Hongqi motor vehicles and their spare parts in Indonesia. "In the document, it is agreed that IMGSL will manage the distribution of motor vehicles under the Hongqi brand including after-sales services and spare parts," he said in a disclosure to the Indonesia Stock Exchange, on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.
Jusak added that this collaboration will enhance the business performance of the Indomobil Group by adding more variety to their motor vehicles. The company currently holds several brands such as Audi, Datsun, Foton, Hino, Inifiniti, John Deere, Kalmar, Manitou, Nissan, Renault, Renault Trucks, SDLG, Suzuki, Volkswagen, Volvo Bus, Volvo Construction Equipment, Volvo Trucks, and Zoomlion.
Hongqi itself is a car that was born in 1958. Since then, it has become the official vehicle for China's leaders and major national events. In the 1960s-1970s, the Hongqi car became a symbol of the automotive industry in its home country.
After the late 1970s, Hongqi moved towards marketing and commercialization. In 2018, Hongqi released a new design strategy and concept, causing a gradual increase in market sales and global exports.
In April 2025, Hongqi announced an ambitious development plan. The company aims to operate in more than 100 countries and regions by establishing 1,000 sales and service outlets within five years.
The car manufacturer stated that they will build five hub clusters overseas in various markets, including Southeast Asia, Europe, and Latin America. They will also establish more local low-carbon research and development centers, supply chains, and operational centers.
Moreover, China FAW Group intends to achieve an annual production capacity overseas exceeding 200,000 vehicles. The company plans to create more than 20,000 new jobs in the upstream and downstream sectors.
Utilizing their three main technology platforms, namely the electric Hongqi Tiangong platform, the hybrid Hongqi Honghu platform, and the intelligent Hongqi Jiuzhang platform, Hongqi plans to launch more than 20 new models worldwide. "Our design will truly make the Hongqi brand an Eastern cultural icon recognized globally," said Vice President of the Hongqi Brand Operations Committee, Liu Changqing, as quoted by Antara, on April 24, 2025.
Currently, Hongqi offers a variety of model lines consisting of 18 models, ranging from gasoline-powered vehicles, fully electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid vehicles, to range-extended vehicles. In 2024, Hongqi achieved annual sales growth for seven consecutive years, reaching 411,777 units.
