Indonesia Considers SOEs Ministry-Danantara Merger Amid Legislative Revisions

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi revealed that the government is considering merging the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) into the Sovereign Wealth Fund of Daya Anagata Nusantara (BPI Danantara), though the plan is still under review.

“There is a possibility, but it is still in the process of review and discussion,” Prasetyo said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Friday.

The Gerindra Party politician noted that several factors are being weighed, including ongoing supervision and management improvement efforts led by Danantara.

“One of the reasons is because the process of supervision and management improvement is currently being undertaken by Danantara,” he explained.

Earlier, Bob Hasan, Chair of the House of Representatives (DPR) Legislative Body, hinted at potential changes to the structure of the SOEs Ministry following the revision of the State-Owned Enterprises Law and the Danantara Investment Management Bill, both slated for inclusion in the 2026 National Legislative Program (Prolegnas) priorities.

“The format might change because Danantara has taken over, with CEO Rosan Perkasa Roeslani in charge. The Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises might no longer exist,” Bob said after a decision-making meeting on the evaluation of the 2025 Prolegnas and preparation for the 2026 Prolegnas at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, September 18.

Bob did not dismiss the possibility of a shift in authority but emphasized that the DPR Legislative Body remains focused on organizing the Prolegnas list for 2025–2026.

“It might happen (a merger of the Ministry of SOEs and Danantara), a shift in authority so that it is formed, possibly like that. Here, I am only working on the Prolegnas, the arrangement of Prolegnas,” he said.

He also highlighted the distinction between the SOEs Bill and the Danantara Bill, noting that the two institutions operate under different principles. “Yesterday, it was a ministry; tomorrow, it might be an agency or something else,” Bob added.
