TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian U-17 national team's journey in the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup came to a halt in the group stage. The 2-1 victory over Honduras in the last match of Group H on late Monday, November 10, 2025, was not enough to carry the Young Garudas into the round of 32.
Under the guidance of Nova Arianto, the team closed the tournament with dignity but was held back by goal difference. Despite accumulating three points, similar to some other third-placed teams, Indonesia was eliminated due to a goal difference of -5, worse than Mexico (-2), who secured the final spot for the best third-placed team.
Indonesia's two goals were scored by Evandra Florasta from a penalty in the 52nd minute and Fadly Alberto in the 72nd minute. Honduras offset the score through Luis Suazo's penalty two minutes after Indonesia's first goal. But the one-goal margin was insufficient.
Despite failing to advance, Indonesia made history as the win over Honduras was the squad's first in the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Indonesia dominated the game from the first minutes, forcing Honduras to endure and defend. Several golden opportunities arose in the first half, from Zahaby Gholy's free kick to Mierza Firjatullah's close-range shot, but all were blocked by goalkeeper Noel Valladares.
The second half set the stage for drama. Two penalties within two minutes changed the tempo of the game, before Fadly Alberto broke the deadlock with a powerful shot from outside the penalty box.
Unfortunately, the players' efforts to score more goals were fruitless until the final whistle. Indonesia ultimately concluded in third place in Group H of the U-17 World Cup with three points, behind Zambia and Brazil. Honduras finished last.
