TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ahmas Rizal Ramdhani, the director general of state-owned rice company Bulog, targets the construction of 100 new warehouses to complete within a year. "As soon as possible, so, when the weather is good we start building," said Rizal at Graha Mandiri in Jakarta on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
Rizal explained that, based on the directive of President Prabowo Subianto, the construction will be prioritized in areas lacking warehouses and in the frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped regions (3T). Some of these areas are South Nias in North Sumatra and Morotai in North Maluku.
Rizal stated that the warehouse capacity will vary, ranging from small warehouses with a storage capacity of 1,000 tons, 3,500 tons, to 7,000 tons. He mentioned that the capacity is determined by the expanse of the rice fields in a region, as well as its potential to become food estate. "No food estate means we'll build just small warehouses, sorry," said Rizal.
Later, a number of warehouses will be equipped with rice milling units (RMUs) and dryers. According to Rizal, additional facilities will only be provided for areas recognized as food production centers. To identify these areas, Rizal will integrate data from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Rizal mentioned that the construction of hundreds of warehouses, costing Rp5 trillion, will rely on state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
He expressed hopes for the construction to run quickly, to allow for the warehouses to operate by next year's harvest season.
On Tuesday, November 11, several ministries inked a joint commitment letter (SKB) to accelerate the construction of 100 Bulog warehouses.
Several officials who signed the document included Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Operating Agency Dony Oskaria, and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance Heru Pambudi.
After signing the SKB, Zulkifli Hasan, also known as Zulhas, stated that Prabowo will issue a presidential decree.
The Bulog warehouse development is intended to ease the food agency in rice and corn absorption, citing the national rice production hike by 13 percent this year, with 34.77 million tons, according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data.
The National Mandate Party politician said that the government does not want any hindrance in rice absorption that would ultimately cause losses for farmers. "Therefore, through the President's directive, we must immediately build the warehouses," said Zulhas.
