TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Bima Arya Sugiarto, confirmed that the central government is currently assessing infrastructure damage across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra following the recent widespread flooding. The government is exploring various financing options for the losses, including regional budget reallocation, provincial aid, or direct central government support.
While inspecting flood disaster management operations in Solok Regency, West Sumatra, on Monday, December 1, 2025, Bima acknowledged that central assistance is forthcoming. "Because the President has confirmed there is assistance," he stated, as quoted from his official statement.
Bima also stressed the critical need for continuous coordination with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) regarding future development and reconstruction efforts. BMKG's weather predictions are crucial for mitigating risks and ensuring that the restoration of damaged infrastructure is not undermined by adverse weather or potential follow-up disasters.
"So, coordination with our BMKG for future (weather) predictions is crucial," he emphasized.
Priority Actions and Logistical Focus
The Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of a rapid, integrated response from all government elements to effectively address the needs of affected residents. Speaking at the Main Disaster Post in Koto Baru, Solok Regency, Bima reiterated the President's mandate: "The President has asked us all to move quickly from the first day."
Bima outlined two immediate operational priorities. He stressed the necessity of smooth and timely distribution of aid to prevent potential delays that could lead to further casualties. "I also see that today what is very much needed and must be ensured is the distribution of logistics to affected families," he said.
Bima also highlighted the urgent need to repair electricity and communication network access, which he called a crucial factor in the recovery process. He noted that in several areas, such as Padang Pariaman, access for electrical repair teams remains hindered.
The Ministry of Home Affairs will also direct local Population and Civil Registration Offices (Disdukcapil) to proactively assist residents requiring administrative services.
"We will strive to promptly help residents in need of population documents such as family cards, ID cards, birth certificates, and others," he concluded.
Bima commended the swift actions taken by the Solok Regency Government, the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) of Solok Regency, and other relevant parties in the immediate mitigation and handling of the disaster.
