TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The U-17 Indonesia national team secured a victory in the final match of Group H's preliminary round at the 2025 U-17 World Cup by defeating Honduras 2-1 at Lapangan 7 Aspire Academy, Doha, Qatar, on Monday night, November 10, 2025. However, this result leaves a very slim chance for advancing to the round of 32.
Currently, Indonesia is not among the list of eight best third-place teams, despite having three points similar to some other teams due to a goal difference of -5, worse than Mexico (-2) who secured the last ticket on this path. Previously, the Young Garudas team lost 1-3 to Zambia and 0-4 to Brazil.
Indonesia stands a chance of advancing if Saudi Arabia loses 0-6 to Mali in the final match of Group L or if Paraguay loses by a large margin to Ireland in Group J. These two matches are scheduled to be played on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
In Group H, two teams have already secured a place in the knockout stage, namely Brazil and Zambia, the top two teams in this group, both with seven points. Next, Indonesia ranks third in this group, with Honduras at the bottom.
Match Summary
The first 45 minutes ended in a draw. Indonesia dominated ball possession and managed to record four on-target shots, all of which were still denied, according to Flashsore's records. Meanwhile, Honduras only managed to get two shots on target.
One of Indonesia's goal opportunities was created by Mierza Firjatullah in the 28th minute. His powerful shot was aimed at the goal but was saved by Honduras' goalkeeper, Noel Valladares. Four minutes later, Alberto Hengga posed a threat to Jose Canales' defense lineup. However, Valladares also caught his kick.
Early in the second half, Mierza was fouled inside the penalty box in the 48th minute. He received a hard tackle from Darel Olivia. The referee pointed to the spot after checking the VAR. The opportunity was not wasted by the Garuda troops. Ervandra Florasta executed the penalty well.
The lead did not last long. Putu Panji committed a handball, awarding Honduras a penalty kick. Luis Suazo, the executor, managed to beat goalkeeper Mike Rajasa, equalizing the score.
In the 72nd minute, Indonesia took the lead again through Alberto Hengga. A cross from the right side by Mierza was met by Alberto Hengga and kicked towards the goal. This goal made the score 2-1.
In total, under Nova Arianto's guidance, Indonesia dominated ball possession with 71.5%, recording 23 shots with seven on target. Meanwhile, Honduras only managed to make 11 shots, with three on target.
Nova Arianto's Comments
Nova is thankful that his team achieved a victory over Honduras. This marked Indonesia's first victory throughout its participation in the U-17 World Cup. In their debut appearance in this event, when hosting the 2023 U-17 World Cup, the Young Garudas under Bima Sakti recorded two draws and one loss in the group stage.
"Thank God, I express my gratitude once again for being in this situation, where I can guide these young players to continue their journey in this World Cup," he said after the match, as quoted by Antara.
"And I am grateful to be able to create a new history. A new history of how we can win in the U-17 World Cup," said the 46-year-old coach.
He urged Evandra Florasta and his teammates not to be complacent and to continue to develop in the future. "I ask the players not to stop here because once again, they will move up a level after this, and hopefully they will continue to develop and gain good experiences during the World Cup, which they will bring to the next level," said the former Indonesian national team player.
