TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Manpower's Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) supports the pilot project for the placement of skilled migrant workers between the Binawan Group and the Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) in Brunei Darussalam. "We support this cooperation plan," said the Director of Non-Government Placement at Legal Employers of the KP2MI Ministry, Nurhayati, at Universitas Binawan Jakarta on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, as quoted from Antara.
According to Nurhayati, the relatively accessible distance between Brunei and Indonesia, as well as the good culture, language, and protection system for migrant workers, makes it favorable. She mentioned that around 100 skilled nurses will be sent to JPMC Brunei Darussalam and Binawan Group in the near future.
The Chief People Officer or Personnel Director of JPMC Brunei Darussalam, Mohammad Salehin Haji Basir, and his team visited the Binawan Training Centre in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. Through the visit to the Binawan Training Center, Salehin hopes that an agreement can be reached soon, especially for skilled nurses.
"We want to establish this relationship with Indonesia so that we can continue to get more talented nurses, with the competencies and standards set in Brunei," he said.
Salehin stated that JPMC Brunei is also ready to further collaborate with Binawan, the Indonesian Embassy, and the KP2MI Ministry in the future to meet the hospital's need for nurses. "And I think this goes beyond Brunei, but also worldwide, when it comes to preparing nurses," he added.
"For this year alone, it will be 100 people. Maybe more next year," Salehin added.
Meanwhile, Danu Samsi Purnomosidhi, the Operational Director of Binawan Group, said that the cooperation plan began with information provided by the Indonesian Manpower Attache in Brunei Darussalam. This information indicated that there were many job opportunities in the country, especially for nurses.
Danu stated that Binawan is also one of the recommendations of the KP2MI Ministry in the placement of migrant workers, as they have long been focused on producing skilled nurses to work abroad.
"So there is collaboration from the KP2MI Ministry, Manpower Attache, and the Brunei Embassy to help Binawan in placing migrant workers in the skilled worker sector," he mentioned.
The visit is a follow-up to the meeting between JPMC, Senior Officials from the Ministry of Health, Brunei Darussalam, and Deputy Minister of the KP2MI, Christina Aryani, in Bandar Seri Begawan at the end of last August.
During the meeting, Deputy Minister Christina met with the hospital management and greeted Indonesian migrant workers working as nurses in renowned health facilities in Brunei Darussalam. "We visited Jerudong Park Medical Centre and spoke with the management as well as the Indonesian migrant workers working as nurses there," she said.
Christina is also ready to expedite the mechanism for recruiting healthcare workers, which is currently one of the issues in the placement of Indonesian migrant workers in Brunei Darussalam.
