TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Indonesian Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) has ordered PT Nestle Indonesia to halt distribution and temporarily suspend imports of S-26 Promil Gold pHPro 1 infant formula milk.
BPOM Head Taruna Ikrar explained that the order was based on a food safety warning issued by the European Union Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (EURASFF) and the International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN) regarding the recall of infant formula milk products produced by Nestle Suisse SA, Konolfingen, Switzerland, in several countries due to potential cereulide toxin contamination in certain arachidonic acid (ARA) oil raw materials used in the production of the infant formula.
Taruna stated that the affected product is S-26 Promil Gold pHPro 1, an infant formula for children aged 0–6 months with distribution permit number ML 562209063696 and batch numbers 51530017C2 and 51540017A1.
Taruna stated that two batches of the affected infant formula products were imported into Indonesia. However, Taruna stated that test results on product samples from the two affected batches did not detect cereulide toxin or a limit of quantitation (LoQ) of
"Nevertheless, the BPOM continues to prioritize the precautionary principle and prioritizes protecting public health, considering the vulnerability of users of these formula products (infants)," Taruna said in a written statement on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
Therefore, the BPOM ordered PT Nestle Indonesia to halt distribution and temporarily halt imports of these products.
Concurrently with this order, Taruna stated that PT Nestle Indonesia has voluntarily recalled all affected infant formula products from circulation under BPOM supervision.
Taruna urged people who own S-26 Promil Gold pHPro 1 (batch numbers 51530017C2 and 51540017A1) to immediately stop consuming it. He also asked the public to return the product to the place of purchase. Taruna also advised the public to contact PT Nestle Indonesia's customer service to return or exchange the product.
In addition to the affected product, Taruna urged the public not to worry about consuming other Nestle products, including S-26 Promil Gold pHPro 1 with batch numbers other than those mentioned.
As of this statement on January 14, 2026, Taruna claimed to have not received any confirmed reports of illnesses in Indonesia related to the consumption of this infant formula.
The cereulide toxin in the product is a toxin produced by the bacterium Bacillus cereus. The Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) stated that this toxin is heat-stable, meaning it cannot be destroyed by boiling water or regular cooking.
According to the Food and Drug Authority (BPOM), symptoms resulting from exposure to this toxin are immediate, generally between 30 minutes and 6 hours after consumption. These symptoms include severe or persistent vomiting, diarrhea, and unusual lethargy.
Nestle Indonesia's Explanation
When Tempo requested confirmation, Nestle Indonesia's Corporate Communications Officer, Elizabeth Wairatta, sent a written statement. In her statement, Nestle Indonesia emphasized that its production facilities in Indonesia were not affected by this issue and that all products manufactured in Indonesia remain safe for consumption.
Furthermore, imported products sold by Nestle Indonesia continue to meet all food safety and quality requirements, both according to national and international standards. This has also been confirmed through comprehensive testing.
Only two batches of products imported into Indonesia from Switzerland are considered potentially affected: Wyeth S-26 Promil Gold pHPro 1 for infants aged 0–6 months (batch numbers 51530017C2 and 51540017A1). These two batches were tested using the most accurate testing methods, and the results confirmed that cereulide was not detected.
However, as a precautionary measure and in line with the BPOM statement published on January 14, 2026, Nestle Indonesia has halted distribution and temporarily halted imports of the affected products, and is conducting a voluntary product recall of the two affected batches under BPOM supervision.
Consumers who own the affected Wyeth S-26 Promil Gold pHPro products, namely batches 51530017C2 and 51540017A1, are encouraged to contact Nestle Indonesia consumer services at 0800 182 1028 or by email at [email protected].
Nestle Indonesia assures consumers that no other products marketed by Nestle Indonesia or Wyeth, or any other batches of the recalled products, are affected by this issue. The company remains committed to the highest standards of quality and food safety, and provides clear and transparent information to parents and the wider community.
