Indonesia U-17 Clinches 2025 Asian Cup Quarterfinal

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia U-17 national team has secured three consecutive victories in Group C of the 2025 U-17 Asian Cup. The team led by Nova Arianto defeated Afghanistan with a score of 2-0 in the final group stage match on Friday, early morning local time, April 11, 2025.

In this match, the Young Garuda squad faced challenges in creating goal opportunities. The substitution of several key players in the Starting XI led to a different style of play than the previous two matches, when they defeated South Korea 1-0 and Yemen 4-1. The players made several passing mistakes.

In the second half, Nova made some player substitutions. He brought in Evandra and Alberto, and Aldyansyah Taher entered from the bench after half-time. Subsequently, Zahaby Gholy was also brought in an hour into the match.

The introduction of these players changes Indonesia's U-17 game, including an increase in attacking intensity and goal opportunities. However, the Young Garuda squad still struggled to score.

The long-awaited goal finally came in the additional time of the second half. Alberto, who received a breakthrough pass from Aldyansyah, managed to deceive the Afghan goalkeeper before slotting the ball into the net. Shortly after the goal, the 16-year-old player danced to celebrate his goal.

This was Alberto's second goal. Previously, he scored as Indonesia U-17 defeated Yemen in their second group match.

Just a minute later, Gholy extended the lead to 2-0 after capitalizing on an assist from Aldyansyah. For Gholy, this was also his second goal in the 2025 U-17 Asian Cup. His first goal was scored in the 4-1 victory against Yemen.

With this result, Indonesia emerged as the winner of Group C with three points. The Nova Arianto-led team scored seven goals and conceded only once in three group stage matches.

The Indonesia U-17 national team advances to the 2025 U-17 Asian Cup quarterfinals alongside South Korea, who finished as the runner-up with six points after defeating Yemen 1-0 following a 6-0 victory over Afghanistan in the previous match.

The Indonesia U-17 national team is scheduled to play in the quarterfinals on Monday, April 14. Evandra Florasta and teammates will face the runner-up of Group D, the result of which will only be known after the final match of the group on Saturday, early morning local time, April 12, 2025.
