Indonesian Govt Disbands IKN Task Force; Authority Head Pledges Continuity

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government officially disbanded the infrastructure task force of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN). The task force was formed during former President Joko Widodo’s administration.

The decision to disband the IKN Infrastructure Task Force is laid out in the Minister of Public Works Decree No. 408/KPTS/M/2025 concerning the Revocation of the Minister of Public Works and People's Housing Decree No. 17/KPTS/M/2024 regarding the IKN Infrastructure Task Force. The Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, signed the ministerial decree on March 26, 2025.

The task force is disbanded due to the establishment of the IKN Authority based on Presidential Regulation Number 62 of 2022.

"The infrastructure development of the state capital is conducted by the Nusantara Capital City Authority, eliminating the need for an infrastructure task force," as quoted from the ministerial decree, cited by Tempo on Monday, April 21, 2025.

The IKN task force was formed in 2021, during the tenure of the Minister of Public Works and People's Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono. The then-minister appointed Danis Sumadilaga, who was the ministry’s director general on Spatial Planning, to lead the task force.

Basuki Hadimuljono now serves as the chief of the IKN Authority, while Danis is the Acting Deputy for Infrastructure and Facilities of the IKN Authority.

Despite the dissolution of the IKN Infrastructure Task Force, Basuki ensured that the construction of the new capital city in East Kalimantan will continue. He said the IKN Authority’s Budget Execution List (DIPA) has been finalized for the new phase of development.

"The budget for road paving and other works along the Nusantara Central Government District (KIPP) roads has been finalized in our DIPA, with a budget of around R 5.4 trillion from the IKN Authority. Then an additional approximately Rp8.1 trillion for the judiciary and legislative buildings that will soon be worked on," Basuki said through the official statement of the IKN Authority.

Thus, the budget for the IKN construction this year amounts to Rp13.5 trillion. Basuki also requested all service providers to immediately mobilize their workforce.

Furthermore, the minister ensured that all unfinished works in IKN will be completed, which include the airport, toll roads, the Vice Presidential Palace, mosques, and roads sanctioned through multiyear contracts. "The budget is already available at the Ministry of Public Works," he said.
