TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Swedish Embassy in Jakarta notes the increasing interest of Indonesian citizens in studying and building a career in Sweden. This is evidenced by the data for 2024-2025, showing a 17 percent increase in the number of Indonesian citizens studying in Sweden compared to previous years.
Previously, the Swedish Embassy held the Join Sweden Study & Career Day 2026 at Artotel GBK Senayan. This event aims to strengthen the development of the quality of human resources for the young generation in Indonesia. The event served as a strategic platform that brought together prospective students and young professionals with comprehensive information about studying and career opportunities in Sweden.
Various world-renowned universities such as Lund University, Uppsala University, Stockholm University, Chalmers University of Technology, and the World Maritime University participated in the event. Research and academic strength were directly aligned with the industrial sector through the participation of global companies such as Ericsson, IKEA, Volvo Cars, Swedcham, and Epiroc. Through this collaboration, the participants, numbering over 2,000, both in-person and virtually, were able to witness firsthand how sustainable principles and technological innovation form the main foundation in an international work environment.
The Swedish Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor Leste, and ASEAN, Daniel Blockert, expressed that young Indonesian talents have great potential to collaborate on the global stage. "Through JOIN SWEDEN, the Embassy aims to pave the way for the younger generation to be part of the solution to future challenges," he said in a press release received by Tempo on April 19, 2026.
In line with this, Ericsson's Government Relations representative, Ronni, expressed admiration for the quality of young Indonesian talents. "Ericsson is very open to building a talent hub from Indonesia and recruiting those who meet the qualifications, especially in supporting the national digital economic growth.
Furthermore, the event also benefited one of the visitors, Fadli, an employee from Jakarta. "This event provides in-depth insights into the intricacies of education and life in Sweden, which greatly helps in determining future career steps, whether to continue studying or seek international job opportunities," he said.
Aside from sharing experiences, participants also received practical guidance such as scholarship application preparation and optimizing professional profiles for the global market. This initiative not only strengthens diplomatic relations between the two countries but also addresses the challenges of Indonesia's low carbon economic transition. With a focus on the IT sector, renewable energy, and life sciences.
Sweden continues to provide opportunities for skilled Indonesian workers to collaborate in creating a more innovative future. For those who were unable to attend, the Swedish Embassy still provides access to information and digital materials through the official registration platform as a commitment to continuously support the development of Indonesian talent.
